Major Projects & Updates

Looking back on 2010

Business investment continues to drive our regional economy due to continued favorable conditions provincially in the mining and energy markets, and locally in infrastructure, construction driven by residential and business growth. This is demonstrated by projects ranging from the multi-billion dollar expansion of the CCRL refinery to the new downtown office and residential towers. Increased income and employment drove consumer spending in the housing and retail markets, which is demonstrated downtown condo investment and completion of Harbour Landing and Grasslands.

In 2010, RROC collaborated with stakeholders to enhance regional prosperity, specific examples include:

  • Established trust amongst neighboring municipalities and facilitated joint planning which resulted in the White Butte Regional Planning Group and the Moose Jaw-Regina Industrial Corridor Stakeholders Group each signing historic regional agreements.
  • In concert with the City of Regina, Regina Downtown, Warehouse District and Regina Chamber of Commerce, promoted the Regina region through the development of the Infinite Horizons brand and first external marketing campaign, Hello Regina.
  • Developed bids for the 2013 Juno Awards, the 2014 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) and the 2012 Western Canadian Music Awards; facilitated the attraction of the first Play On! Street hockey tournament and the creation of a  new event, the 2011 Scotiabank Prairie Pond Hockey Championships.
  • RROC along with the Regina Convention Team booked 25 conventions which results in approximately 18,000 room nights from convention business to be realized in the next 3-4 years.
  • Under the leadership of the City of Regina, RROC was involved in the development and organization of the 2011 National Infrastructure Summit.
  • Creation of the Business Succession Pilot Program with the support of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration and Enterprise Saskatchewan.
  • Supported the attraction of new businesses to our community and further investment in the Global Transportation Hub.
