Leaders from across Canada will once again focus on improving Canada’s roads, sidewalks, bridges, water, wastewater and underground pipes at the 2012 National Infrastructure Summit, occurring September 10 - 12, 2012 in Regina.

The 2012 Summit follows last year’s successful, inaugural Summit, which for the first time provided the opportunity for all orders of government and the private sector to collectively identify infrastructure challenges and look at potential global innovative solutions. The 2012 Summit builds on those discussions and provides further opportunity to prepare our municipalities to become 21st Century models of urban sustainability.

“Strong vibrant cities and communities are an essential part of the country’s economic strength and vitality. When all orders of government and the private sector work collaboratively, our country, as a whole, benefits through robust economic development that attracts further investment,” Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco said.

The 2012 Summit will feature two “Morph My City” competitions, in which entrants will submit designs for a state-of-the-art, environmentally sustainable neighbourhood from a pre-existing Regina neighbourhood and another from an unserviced area of land. Prizes include a service contract and a cash award, as well as national exposure.

Also featured will be the themes: Defining the Need, Citizen Engagement, Financing the Opportunities, Program Models and Innovation, offering interactive sessions and keynote speakers. “The 2012 Summit is an opportunity to move from the conceptual stage, focused on in the 2011 Summit, towards a more practical based approach, where we can begin to put in place some of the innovative concepts discussed throughout the previous Summit and lead by example,” said Mayor Fiacco.

Further additions to the Summit include an invitational Trade Show and Sponsorship Opportunities. The Trade Show will provide a platform for exhibitors to showcase their innovative products and services and bring together creative ideas from a global perspective.
