Regina, Saskatchewan. (September. 14, 2011) – The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts
and Sciences (CARAS), along with CTV and the Regina Host Committee are pleased to
announce that Regina will host the 2013 JUNO AWARDS and JUNO Week events and
festivities, April 15 – 21st.
The 42nd annual JUNO Awards will be broadcast live on CTV from Regina’s Brandt Centre,
Sunday April 21st. Weeklong festivities will be featured in both Regina and Moose Jaw,
providing more opportunities for Saskatchewan music lovers to experience Canada’s premier
music awards celebration.
“We’re thrilled to be heading back to Saskatchewan,” said Melanie Berry, President & CEO,
CARAS/The JUNO Awards. “Saskatoon hosted one of the most successful JUNO Awards back
in 2007, and we know the cities of Regina and Moose Jaw will build on the level of
excitement only the prairies can generate.”
The Host Committee and its funding partners; PotashCorp, City of Regina, City of
Moose Jaw and the Regina Hotel Association, is planning numerous events throughout the
week leading up to the awards show. From the JUNO Cup hockey game, to numerous
performances by some of Canada’s biggest stars, Saskatchewan will have the opportunity to
experience Canadian culture up close and personal.
“This is very exciting for the entire province, as once again, the eyes of the nation will focus
on Saskatchewan,” Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson said. “The
Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to contribute $1.5 million toward hosting the 2013
JUNOS in Regina. The week will be filled with many high profile events showcasing our
Saskatchewan talent to thousands across the country.”
The JUNO Awards history dates back to 1970. In 1971, it became recognized as the JUNO
Awards in honour of Pierre Juneau, the first chairman of the Canadian Radio-Television
Commission (CRTC). Today, the JUNO Awards have evolved from a one-day awards event to
a weeklong celebration featuring events that attract thousands of music fans from across
the country and abroad. For more information about the JUNO Awards visit: Junoawards.ca.
