Regina Revitalization Plan Announced
Mayor
Pat Fiacco announced on April 19, 2011, a "new vision" for the future
of prime property in the heart of Regina.
He
released a concept study of what the CP container yard lands south of Dewdney
Avenue and the current Mosaic Stadium site could like if developed with
commercial and residential buildings, as well as a multi-purpose facility that
is "not only for football."
He
also announced the creation of a corporation called Regina Revitalization Inc.,
which will be responsible for co-ordinating efforts around redeveloping the
area. But details of how that entity will work, what could be developed on the
sites and how that development will be financed remain to be seen.
Fiacco
unveiled a video that explained that with the development of the Global
Transportation Hub, the CP container yards are relocating and "prime
land" could be available for development including an entertainment
facility. Then, Mosaic Stadium could be demolished and new affordable and
market-rate housing could be developed on its site.
