Regina's
New Global Transportation Hub officially Open for Business
Premier
Brad Wall and Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco joined Canadian Logistics Services (CLS)
President Joe Roeder today to celebrate the grand opening of the company's new
distribution centre at the Global Transportation Hub (GTH).
"This
is one of the most important economic projects in Saskatchewan," Wall
said. "In addition to nearly 800 new jobs at this facility, we can expect
to see more jobs and new investment coming to Saskatchewan and the Regina area
as the GTH develops. This fits into our vision for Saskatchewan as a gateway to
the New West."
"The city of Regina is excited about the opportunities this facility will bring to
our community," Fiacco said. "We have a strong and diverse business
community and the addition of CLS fits well with our city's vision to be
Canada's most vibrant, inclusive, attractive, sustainable community where
people live in harmony and thrive in opportunity."
As
part of one of the largest development projects in Saskatchewan, this
distribution centre has strong economic impact in the surrounding community.
The first phase of the CLS Distribution Centre was completed in December 2010
and currently employs 176 people.
"CLS
is honoured to play a role in the economic growth of Saskatchewan and
specifically here in the city of Regina," Roeder said. "We are
pleased with the enthusiastic response to our recent job fairs and look forward
to the facility being 100 per cent operational and fully staffed by early
2012."
The
CLS Distribution Centre is the first major development at the GTH, located in
west Regina. When fully developed, the GTH will comprise a major Western
Canadian transportation and logistics centre. The GTH will stimulate provincial
economic development by providing enhanced and more efficient access to global
supply chains for Saskatchewan exporters and attracting new investment, such as
CLS.
